AMBE-LR 1200/1800 bps Low-Bit Rate Vocoder
Westford, Mass - Digital Voice Systems, Inc. (DVSI) the recognized leader in speech compression technology has introduced AMBE-LR a new extremely low-bit-rate AMBE+2™ Vocoder. The AMBE-LR establishes a new voice quality standard, at data rates of 1200 and 1800 bps. With this new low-bit-rate vocoder original equipment manufacturers now have a key component to produce innovative low data rate communication systems that deliver exceptional voice quality with high performance and flexibility.

Derived from DVSI's AMBE+2™ vocoder technology the AMBE-LR uses less data frames to achieve quality voice even at the extremely low data rates of 1200 bps and 1800 bps. The AMBE-LR Vocoder is designed with reasonable algorithmic complexity permitting OEM's to build new inexpensive equipment that can be compact with low power consumption. For existing systems the AMBE-LR Vocoder can be employed to increase the number of users supported across a fixed bandwidth. The small bandwidth requirement of the AMBE-LR Vocoder also frees up spectrum that could be used for data security, encryption and anti-jamming measures.
In systems that experience degraded channel conditions and/or background noise, Forward Error Correction (FEC) can be added to reduce bit errors without a significant bandwidth impact. To fit within most commercial and military mobile communication applications the AMBE-LR Vocoder is available with an array of advanced features such as automatic Voice/Silence detection (VAD), adaptive comfort noise generation (CNI), DTMF and North American call progress tones detection and signaling, and echo cancellation.
