Legacy Vocoders AMBE+™, AMBE®, IMBE™

AMBE+™, AMBE®, IMBE™ Vocoders

Digital Voice Systems, Inc. (DVSI) has been designing and producing speech compression technology since the 1980's when work began on a fundamentally different speech model known as Multi Band Excitation (MBE). DVSI significantly improved the MBE model and introduce it into the commercial marketplace as the Improved Multi-Band Excitation (IMBE™).

As demands for lower data rates and better speech quality increased, DVSI continued to demonstrate its commitment and leadership in providing the best speech compression technology with the introduction of Advanced Multi-Band Excitation (AMBE®) speech model, and again with the AMBE+™ vocoder technology. Today DVSI has pushed the technology to even greater heights with AMBE+2™.

AMBE+™, AMBE®, IMBE™ Vocoder Benefits

  • Maintain speech intelligibility and speaker recognition at rates as low as 2.0 kbps
  • Resistant to background noise and channel errors
  • Data rates easily scaled from 2.0 to 9.6 kbit/s
  • Uses less computations than CELP
  • Does not require the use of a residual signal
  • Eliminates fixed data rate and codebook problems
  • Low complexity reduces implementation costs

The superior performance characteristics of the AMBE+™, AMBE® and IMBE™ Vocoders has allowed them to quickly become a standard on many international communication systems.
